Poetry 158: Fins and Wings

Fins and Wings

When you don’t feel like drafting a story
About a magical journey so vivid and flashy
When you don’t feel like inventing a tale
Of heroes and kings in armors so shiny

Look deep into the dark blue ocean
And imagine yourself with gills and fins
Swim and find within its profound depths
Singing whales and talking dolphins

Then get yourself a pair of wings
And fly up high into the shimmering sky
Snack on creamy marshmallow clouds
Sing a song and play with golden fireflies

And when the sun begins to bow at day’s end
You must slowly descend onto a warm bed
Armed with a pillow and treasured memories
Ready to dream a new adventure inside your head
